Nice to crack on with a bit of woven fencing in the sun! V pleased with how these turned out. Great to use the material through to the finished product.

We've got one more big fence job to get on with and hopefully we'll have some material left over for a hurdle or two.

We've got a volunteer day at Castle Hills next Wednesday at Castle Hills. We will have competitions for the most cute Hazel flowers! Get in touch if you're interested.

We had a great time at the National Coppice Federa

We had a great time at the National Coppice Federation AGM over in Silverdale. 6 of our members, one volunteer and some family including 3 month old Ada came along for craft demonstrations and workshops, discussions on coppicing businesses and the AGM. Thanks to CANWA for hosting the event. It was lovely to connect with others in our small industry and share time (and delicious food) together.

Exciting news, we are hiring!! …

Leeds Coppice Workers are looking for someone passionate about sustainable, low impact woodland management, to join our team. The role will involve assisting with all the practical aspects of coppice management, firewood and charcoal production as well as working with volunteers, hedgelaying and coppice crafts. We are open to recruiting someone as a member of the co-op on a permanent basis or as a temporary worker for the coming coppice season (Oct – Apr).

If you're visiting Meanwood park, Gledhow valley wood, Post hill wood or Hetchel you may see that we've been busy installing fascines.

Fascines are great for so many reasons, though we've installed them here to combat soil erosion and to help stop silt entering our water ways, which will in turn combat flooding.

A shout out to all Friends of Groups that have helped. Special thanks to @andel_ltd and @thetreecouncil for their continued support in delivering this project.

Where has all the undergrowth gone!? We've install

Where has all the undergrowth gone!? We've installed bundles of brash wood called fascines on the steep woodland slopes at Meanwood park. Fascines combat erosion and flooding by slowing rain water run off, trapping sediment and provides a habitat for seeds to take hold.

The first few images are from Hetchel 2013 showing our layering process and the first few months of growth. The last few are from the same coup this season, where you can make out the growth from the layers.
