EARLY BIRD SPECIAL OFFER!!

Order before September 1st for a £5 discount on firewood

Two year seasoned firewood logs sourced from a variety of sustainably managed Leeds woodland is now available to order.

On top of our already generous bulk discount orders we are offering a further £5 discount on all firewood logs if you order before September 1st 2023.

This year our firewood stack is Oak dominant with good amounts of Hazel, Ash and Sycamore to get your fire roaring.  All bags are mixed species and logs are cut at approximately 23cm and split where possible. Due to the nature of coppiced woodlands, log size does vary.

Firewood is sold in bulk bags that measure 0.9 x 0.9 x 0.8 M. We aim to deliver firewood (loose, as we reuse the bags) as close to your preferred drop off that our truck will allow. We charge £15 (per bag) for moving firewood more than 5 meters by hand and another £15 (per bag) for stacking if desired.

We are also able to offer net bags of softwood kindling, however kindling can only be ordered in addition to firewood.

Please note we have a 7 mile free delivery zone from our wood yard in LS16. After that delivery is charged at £1.50 per mile there and back.

Volunteer Dates 2022/23

Volunteer Dates for the coming season are now live. We’ll be hosting volunteer days at Nutwood, Hetchel Woods, Town Close and Bramham. We’ll update venues as soon as we know.

If you’d like to come along please email us and let us know so we can gauge numbers. You’ll need to bring work clothes and boots, water proofs, warm layers, work gloves, lunch and drink. We’ll supply hot drinks and snacks.

Our volunteer days can encompass a wide range of activities required as part of coppicing, from laying hazel, installing fencing, producing fascines, and shifting firewood. People will undertake a mix of activities throughout the day, and it is generally a physical and lovely day out in the woods. We usually start at 8.30 and finish at 3.30.

Wisdom from the Woods

This summer we are on a mission to reconnect the people of Leeds with the woods!

Through generous funding from the National Lottery community fund, we have been inviting community groups from inner city Leeds to our favourite woodlands.

Groups from The Feel Good Factor, TCV and Hyde Park Source have been learning about woodland managment and getting very hands on with coppicing and wood craft.

Stools and hurdles at Hetchel woods

We have been keen to make sure participants create something physical that can be taken home and be put to good use. The HPS Lost Plot group created some Hazel Hurdles that would make great wind breaks at their allotment, whilst the Feel Good Factor group made some great looking spatulas.

Three legged stools that our participants made. The perfect Perch for milking a cow!

LCW have made quite a few new friends along this journey. It’s been a real joy to be able to reach out and meet new people that may have not had the chance otherwise.

“Thank you for such a fantastic sunny day in the woods! Our volunteers absolutely loved both days and were a very happy fulfilled contented bunch in the taxi home.
Do hope we can do this again later in the year and bring other volunteers to experience it all.”

With new skills, we hope participants will be empowered and reach out for other volunteering opportunities, qualifications or maybe even employment. A big thanks to the National Lottery community fund for making these workshops possible.
